The Manor

Munro Manor is a French Country style home built in 1935 by William and Lara Munro. Mr. Munro had relocated to Park Falls from the east coast to help the struggling Flambeau Paper Mill of Park Falls. His wife Lara followed him shortly after and this home was constructed for the couple by the Paper Mill. Mr. Munro died unexpectedly in 1941 and Lara remained in Park Falls. After his death, she traveled the world including African safaris and cowboy dude ranches out west. This was quite a change from her lady-like existence in Park Falls as she was best remembered driving around town in her Baby Blue Cadillac wearing white gloves. Lara Munro died in 1977 and "The Manor" went into an estate.

Dr. and Mrs. Breen purchased "The Manor" in 1979-1980 and added a spacious two story addition making it the 5,000 square foot residence it is now. Dr. Breen was a popular dentist in Park Falls, and he and his wife Jean raised their three children here making it their family home. The Breens retired and moved out west in 2004.

In 2006, we (Mike Hlavacek, Beth Roberts and family) purchased the home with the intention of creating a comfortable bed & breakfast in Park Falls. With a prominent location on Highway 13, "The Manor" has always been one of the more historic homes in the area and has an old world charm making it a perfect spot for a B&B. We purchased the home on Friday, October 13, 2006 (??) and began renovations. Munro Manor B&B was opened in July 2008 with one room, the Maid's Quarters, available for rent. As of May 2010 we have three rooms for rent and are enjoying every minute of it!

As an update ~ some of you know we have seen some ghosts and had a few weird experiences but things have calmed down since the remodeling was completed. It's been a wild ride but definitely worth it.

We hope you'll try Munro Manor Bed & Breakfast during your stay in Park Falls.

First Guests from the Maid's Quarters Journal:
July 7, 2008:
We couldn't have found a more delightful and cozy place. We were treated more like family than guests. And were charmed by Beth's ghost stories. Beth and Mike have provided many cozy spots to spend time. We loved having our little balcony and glider. Our stay was a delight. We were so excited to be the first guests, but we know everyone who stays here will enjoy it too!
