The Northwoods is full of trails that lend themselves to snowshoeing. It's a sport that is easy to learn and great fun for all ages. Two of our favorite snowshoe spots are Round Lake Logging Dam and Newman Springs Ski and Snowshoe Trail. Both are located east of Park Falls in the Chequamegon National Forest, are easily accessible and have parking lots.
Round Lake Logging Dam is a restored 1890s dam and the head-waters for the South Fork of the Flambeau River where it begins flowing out of Round Lake. Trails include a series of loops and our favorite runs along Round Lake through stands of red pine trees and mature hardwoods. Lots of wildlife and natural beauty here!
Newman Springs Trail has several loops with Loops A and B being best for snowshoeing. The trails are hilly and rolling, wooded and run by the springs, a pond and a creek. Here there are stands of mature red and white pine. Very pristine and peaceful.
Snowshoe Rentals are for 24 hours from the time of pick up and includes poles. Cost: $14 for adults; $10 for children.
Whichever activity you choose to enjoy, be sure to bring your camera to capture family fun and beautiful local scenery.
